SYDNEY, NSW — September 2026: Communities across Sydney are coming together to support Nepal following devastating floods, with the Australian Indian Sports, Education & Cultural Society (AISECS) set to host a special Nepal Flood Relief Fundraising Dinner — “Australia Stands with Nepal.”

The fundraising dinner will be held on Friday, 18 September 2026, from 6:00pm to 10:00pm at Grand Royale, Granville, with official proceedings commencing at 6:30pm.

The initiative will bring together members of the Nepalese community, multicultural communities, parliamentarians, community leaders, business representatives and supporters to raise funds and show solidarity with families affected by the devastating floods.

The event is being led by AISECS Founder Gurnam Singh, who has spent years building connections across Australia’s multicultural communities and creating opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds to come together, support one another and contribute to the wider community.

Through AISECS and his broader community work, Singh has focused on strengthening relationships between communities, government, businesses and organisations, while using sport, education and culture as platforms to bring people together.

Following the floods, Singh also helped organise a candlelight vigil in Parramatta with Lord Mayor Martin Zaiter and the City of Parramatta Council, providing the community with an opportunity to remember those who lost their lives and stand in solidarity with affected families.

For Singh, the vigil was an important first step — but compassion must also lead to practical action.

“The candlelight vigil was important because it showed that we care, that we remember the lives lost and that Nepal is not standing alone. But we also need to turn that compassion into action. Families need financial support to rebuild their homes, repair what has been destroyed and get their lives back on track.”

He added:

“Kindness and humanity are within all of us. As Australians, coming together to support a community in need is part of who we are and the way we live. It doesn’t matter what our background is — when people need help, we stand together.”

The fundraising dinner will provide an opportunity for attendees to make a practical contribution to Nepal’s recovery while coming together through food, culture and sport.

An Evening of Community, Culture and Fundraising

The evening will feature a three-course dinner, cultural performances, raffle and live auction, with a range of items being donated in support of the relief effort.

Auction highlights include a cricket bat provided by Cricket Australia, along with NRL jerseys from the Parramatta Eels and Penrith Panthers, donated by Heartland Motors Chullora.

The event is expected to bring together people from across Sydney’s multicultural community, demonstrating the strength of multicultural Australia when people unite behind a common cause.

Community members can support the initiative by purchasing a ticket, booking a table, making a donation, or supporting the auction and raffle.
