Chris Minns Strengthens Business Ties with Mahindra and Tata in Mumbai

NSW Premier Chris Minns and Treasurer Daniel Mookhey have met senior representatives of two of India’s most influential companies, Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Group, during the Mumbai leg of the NSW Government’s official mission to India.

The engagements formed part of the delegation’s efforts to attract greater Indian investment into New South Wales, deepen commercial relationships and expand opportunities for businesses operating across both markets.

Mahindra & Mahindra, one of India’s leading multinational companies, has major interests across automotive manufacturing, technology, agriculture, financial services, logistics and renewable energy.

The engagement highlighted the growing economic relationship between India and NSW, as well as opportunities for closer business cooperation across key sectors.

Premier Minns also met Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran and toured the Tata Experience Centre, gaining insight into the history, achievements and global reach of the Tata Group.

Tata is one of India’s most internationally recognised business groups, with operations spanning technology, automotive manufacturing, steel, energy, telecommunications, hospitality and consumer products.

The visit highlighted opportunities to strengthen NSW’s links with major Indian companies across technology, advanced manufacturing, clean energy, investment and innovation.

A warm and memorable moment came during the Tata engagement when Premier Minns and Treasurer Mookhey met Goa, the well-known dog associated with Bombay House, Tata Group’s historic headquarters.

Goa was reportedly brought to Mumbai from the Indian state of Goa as a puppy and became closely associated with the late Ratan Tata, who was widely admired for his love of animals.

Bombay House is also known for welcoming and caring for local stray dogs. Its renovation, completed in 2018, included a dedicated space for their care and welfare.

The meetings with Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Group demonstrate the importance of direct engagement with India’s leading companies as NSW seeks to expand trade, encourage investment and build long-term commercial partnerships.

India and NSW recorded $6.87 billion in goods trade during 2024–25. The four-day mission to New Delhi and Mumbai is focused on opportunities across technology, critical minerals, clean energy, tourism, education, research and advanced industries.
