Premier Minns laid a wreath at the memorial inside the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, one of the principal locations targeted during the coordinated attacks of November 2008.

Joined by members of the NSW delegation, the Premier paused to honour all those who lost their lives, including Australians Douglas “Doug” Markell and Brett Taylor, both from Sydney.

Mr Markell, a former deputy mayor of Woollahra Council, and Mr Taylor, a businessman from Turramurra, were among the 164 innocent people killed during the attacks. Hundreds more were injured.

The violence unfolded over 62 hours and targeted several locations across Mumbai, including the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Oberoi-Trident Hotel, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Leopold Café and Nariman House.

The wreath-laying was a solemn moment during Premier Minns’ Mumbai program and recognised the enduring grief shared by families and communities in India, Australia and around the world.

The tribute also reflected the close people-to-people relationship between Australia and India, and their shared commitment to standing together against terrorism and remembering innocent lives lost.

Premier Minns is visiting New Delhi and Mumbai with NSW Treasurer Daniel Mookhey and an official delegation as part of a mission focused on strengthening trade, investment, education and cultural ties between NSW and India.
