NSW Premier Chris Minns has placed critical minerals, high-tech metals, clean energy and investment at the centre of his official mission to India, highlighting opportunities for deeper cooperation between New South Wales and India’s rapidly expanding industrial and clean-energy sectors.

Speaking at an Energy Transition, Critical Minerals and High-Tech Metals meeting in New Delhi on 31 August 2026, Premier Minns outlined how NSW’s resources, mining expertise and advanced capabilities could help support India’s growing demand for strategic minerals used in renewable energy, electric vehicles, electronics and advanced manufacturing.

Mr Minns highlighted opportunities involving copper, gold, rare earths, scandium and silver, noting the growing importance of critical minerals and high-tech metals to emerging technologies and India’s long-term energy transition.

He said NSW saw a “massive opportunity” to strengthen its economic relationship with India, particularly through cooperation aligned with India’s National Critical Mineral Mission 2030.

During the mission, Premier Minns also met Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel for discussions on strengthening cooperation across trade, investment, technology, education, clean energy and innovation.

The discussions also covered the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2027, with Premier Minns expressing enthusiasm for NSW to send an active delegation to the major international business forum.

The engagements underline NSW’s interest in developing strategic partnerships with India in sectors important to both economies’ future growth. They also position the state as a potential partner and supplier in the critical-minerals and high-tech metals supply chains supporting clean energy, advanced technology and manufacturing.
