The Government of India has introduced two major digital initiatives aimed at improving governance, streamlining services, and enhancing convenience for overseas Indians and organisations receiving foreign contributions.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah officially launched the FCRA 2.0 portal and the new e-OCI Card platform, describing the initiatives as another step towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Minimum Government, Maximum Governance.”
The upgraded FCRA 2.0 portal has been designed to simplify compliance for organisations receiving foreign contributions. By digitising the application and reporting processes, the new platform is expected to significantly reduce paperwork, improve transparency, save time, and provide a more user-friendly experience. At the same time, it will strengthen the Government’s ability to regulate foreign contributions and safeguard national interests.
The newly introduced e-OCI Card system is expected to benefit more than five million Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders worldwide. The platform enables online applications, digital OCI card issuance, and secure 24/7 access through mobile devices, eliminating the need for physical visits for most OCI-related services.
The initiative is expected to make visa and OCI-related procedures faster, more efficient, and more accessible for the global Indian diaspora, including the large Indian Australian community.
These digital reforms reflect India’s continued commitment to modernising public services through technology while improving ease of access, efficiency, and transparency for citizens and the global Indian community.
