Queensland’s K’gari hooks anglers for winter tailor season

As winter settles across Australia, tailor season is now in full swing along K’gari – Fraser Island’s iconic 75 Mile Beach in Queensland, with SeaLink K’gari encouraging fishing enthusiasts to make tracks to Hervey Bay.

Known as one of Australia’s premier beach fishing destinations, K’gari (Fraser Island) off Hervey Bay attracts anglers from around the country each winter chasing tailor, jewfish, dart, whiting, bream and golden trevally along the world’s largest sand island with its expansive eastern beaches and calmer western waterways.

K’gari Beach Resort and Kingfisher Bay Resort are encouraging visitors to make the most of the winter fishing season, with accommodation packages and island experiences designed to help guests choose a holiday experience that caters for and enjoys both the adventure and natural beauty of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed destination.

General Manager SeaLink K’gari, Daniel Maroszek, said winter is one of the best times of year to experience the island’s unique fishing culture and rugged natural beauty.

“K’gari is a bucket-list destination for so many anglers, particularly during tailor season when the beaches come alive before sunrise with visitors casting lines along 75 Mile Beach,” Mr Maroszek said.

“What makes the experience so special is that it’s not just about the fishing, it’s about the adventure of getting out onto the island, exploring the coastline, staying beachside and experiencing one of the world’s most remarkable natural destinations.”

Stretching along the island’s eastern coastline, 75 Mile Beach is widely regarded as one of Queensland’s best tailor fishing locations during the cooler months, particularly around hotspots including Indian Head, Waddy Point and Cathedral Beach.

Located just moments from many of these popular fishing areas, K’gari Beach Resort continues to be a popular base for anglers and four-wheel-drive enthusiasts looking to combine fishing, off-road adventure and an island escape.

To coincide with tailor season, the resort is also offering its limited-time ‘Beach Please!’ package, which includes:

• Two nights’ accommodation at K’gari Beach Resort
• Return vehicle ferry transfers
• Daily buffet breakfast
• Savings of up to 40% on selected stays
• Easy access to 75 Mile Beach and the island’s iconic tailor fishing hotspots

There’s so much more to experience on K’gari beyond fishing, from exploring coloured sand cliffs, rainforest tracks and freshwater lakes to discovering remote beaches and coastal lookouts across the World Heritage-listed island.

For those seeking a more relaxed island eco-friendly escape, Kingfisher Bay Resort also offers easy access to K’gari’s western waterways and a range of guided experiences through K’gari Explorer Tours, showcasing the island’s unique marine life and natural environment.

Visitors are encouraged to check local fishing regulations and seasonal closures before travelling, with parts of K’gari’s eastern foreshore subject to annual seasonal fishing closures from August through September.
