Sydney, Saturday, 28 February 2026: The Harman Foundation team, with around 400 supporters, came together to celebrate our 13th Annual Fundraising Gala – “Light & Hope: Creating Hope and Empowering Lives” on Saturday, 28 February 2026, at Bowman Hall, Blacktown.
We are so pleased and proud to share that our guest of honour, Attorney-General of Australia, Hon Michelle Rowland MP, graced us with her presence and her tremendous support for our work and the cause of building a safer and connected social system for women and their children seeking protection from domestic, family, and sexual violence in multicultural communities.
Maninder Singh, the Co-founder and Chair, opened the evening with the unveiling of our FY25 Annual Impact Report and highlighted some key data, including over 24,400 volunteer hours dedicated across the helpline, case management, food distribution, and other support services. HER House offered safety and care to 10 women and their children, DFSV case management for over 500 women, 2,000+ calls managed via our 24×7 helpline, over 20,000 meals served through our food drive, and over 30,000 people touched by our acts of care. The Foundation contributed $1.14 million to the Australian economy through social value creation.
This was followed by the Attorney-General’s speech, where she recollected attending Harman Foundation’s Gala dinners since 2014. She mentioned that she has been involved with the Foundation since its early days and praised the dedication and tireless commitment of the founding team, Harinder Kaur OAM and Maninder Singh, along with the entire team. She also highlighted the alarming domestic violence statistics, mentioning that one woman is killed every 14 days by a current or former intimate partner, reinforcing the urgent need for continued awareness, advocacy, and support services.
Immense support and enthusiasm also came from our local leaders, longstanding sponsors, and loyal community supporters, who joined to mark another year of changemaking and impact. We were joined by Cr Talia Amituanai, Councillor Blacktown; Cr Dr Moninder Singh, Councillor Blacktown; Cr Dorothy Del Villar, Councillor Blacktown; Councillor Jugandeep Singh, Councillor Blacktown; Stephen Bali, Member of Parliament, Blacktown; Warren Kirby, Member of Parliament, Riverstone; Cr Susai Benjamin, Councillor Blacktown; Cr Sameer Pandey, Councillor Parramatta; Cr Rosemarie Boneham, Councillor, The Hills Shire; Cr Indu Balachandran, Councillor Ku-ring-gai; and Dr Peter Gangemi, Former Mayor of The Hills Shire.
The connecting thread throughout the program was family, and how family holds the power to spread hope and light. Harman Foundation was started by the Singh family, and every individual who has come into our circle is considered family. Keeping this at the heart of the program, the HF team launched the “5 for HER” campaign – pledging $5 per week so that together we can save five women by keeping our 24/7 helpline open and ensuring someone is there to answer every call for help. The campaign is seeking “The Founding Fifty” families to commit. Details on how to sign up are included in the supporting material.
The evening also included a reenactment of the story of one of the survivors who rebuilt her life at HER House, beautiful dances including folk dances from Punjab, and recognition of sponsors and volunteers. The Harman team is humbled and extremely grateful for all the love and support. Our major service partners – Perera Foundation (the philanthropic arm of the Castle Group), Workers, Dooleys, CommBank Staff Foundation, The Calais Foundation, and the Sachdev Foundation – made it possible to achieve the impact we have created through their continued support.
