India Sets Up Emergency Control Room as West Asia Conflict Escalates

India has established a special control room in New Delhi to assist its citizens amid the rapidly escalating conflict in West Asia following US–Israel strikes on Iran and Tehran’s retaliatory attacks across the Gulf region.

The control room, set up by the Ministry of External Affairs, will operate daily from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. (Indian time) to support Indian nationals currently in affected countries.

Indian citizens seeking assistance can contact the facility through the toll-free helpline 1800118797 or via landlines +91-11-23012113, +91-11-23014104 and +91-11-23017905. Emergency embassy contacts have also been activated for countries including Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Israel and the United Arab Emirates.

The move comes as tensions intensify in the region after reported strikes killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, prompting retaliation from Tehran. Iranian missile and drone attacks have reportedly been intercepted over Kuwait, Bahrain and the UAE, leading to temporary airspace closures and casualties in several locations.

The escalating confrontation has also seen counter-strikes by US forces, including naval operations, marking one of the most serious confrontations between Washington and Tehran in decades.

Earlier, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reviewed the situation following the February 28 air strikes in Iran and the subsequent escalation across the Middle East.

According to an official statement, the committee expressed serious concern over the safety and security of the large Indian expatriate community in the region.

Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s commitment to peace and stability, emphasising that disputes must be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.

“The current situation in West Asia is a matter of deep concern for us. India supports the peaceful resolution of conflicts and will continue to work closely with countries in the region to ensure the safety of Indian nationals,” he said.
