Chris Minns Labels Bondi Beach Shooting a Terrorist Act as Death Toll Mounts

New South Wales Premier Chris Minns has described the mass shooting at Bondi Beach as a terrorist act, in response to one of the deadliest attacks in Australia’s recent history.

On the evening of December 14, 2025, multiple gunmen opened fire at crowds gathered at Bondi Beach during a Jewish festival Hanukkah celebration, killing at least ten people and injuring more than a dozen, including two police officers.

Witnesses reported chaotic scenes as gunfire erupted near Campbell Parade, prompting beachgoers and tourists to flee for cover. Emergency services, including NSW Police and paramedics, responded swiftly to secure the area and treat the injured. One of the suspected shooters was killed at the scene, while another was taken into custody in critical condition.

In a statement released shortly after the attack, Premier Minns emphasised the gravity of the incident, declaring it to be not merely an act of random violence but a terror-like attack with profound implications for public safety and national security. Authorities have yet to release full details on the motive, but political leaders and community representatives have noted the context of the attack occurring during a Jewish holiday celebration.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also condemned the violence, calling the scenes “shocking and distressing” and offering condolences to the victims and their families.

Police have urged anyone with information or footage of the incident to come forward as the investigation continues. The attack has prompted heightened security measures and national discussions on terrorism, community safety, and solidarity in the face of tragedy.

Further details are expected as law enforcement authorities provide updates from the ongoing investigation.
