Kolkata Cricket Club at Crown Melbourne: Where Heritage Meets Haute Indian Dining 🏏

By Indus Age Lifestyle Desk

Melbourne’s dining scene has a new culinary landmark — Kolkata Cricket Club (KCC) at Crown Melbourne. An elegant tribute to Bengal’s rich gastronomic heritage, KCC masterfully blends nostalgia, refinement, and contemporary creativity.

Awarded a prestigious Chef’s Hat in 2025, Kolkata Cricket Club brings a bold and refined take on Indian cuisine to Crown Melbourne. The restaurant is helmed by acclaimed Australian–Indian chef Mischa Tropp, whose inventive approach and respect for tradition have redefined how Melbourne experiences Indian flavours.

Known for his mastery of Bengali cuisine, Tropp serves up what many call Melbourne’s finest Butter Chicken, alongside flame-grilled tandoori meats, delicate seafood, and classic Indian dishes reimagined with modern elegance. His menu is a celebration of spice, texture, and storytelling — where every dish has heritage at its heart.

At the Private Event Space Preview Night, guests embarked on an exquisite tasting journey that celebrated India’s most beloved regional dishes, paired with fine Australian wines.

The evening began with a refreshing KCC Passion Fruit Spritz and the iconic Kingfisher Lager, setting the tone for an evening of sensory indulgence. Carefully paired wines — The Next Hundred Years Semillon ’23, Avani Amrit Pinot Gris ’23, Avani Amrit Pinot Noir ’22, and Dhillon ‘Accidental Red’ Merlot/Shiraz ’24 — elevated every course.

The menu opened with a crisp, clever take on street-food luxury: the Puchka Scallop, an inventive twist marrying the vibrancy of Kolkata’s puchkas with ocean freshness. The Macher Bhorta (Bengali-style mashed fish) and Seekh Kebab carried warmth and spice, while Matar Kulcha and Wood-Fired Mushrooms balanced comfort and earthiness in equal measure.

For mains, the Kosha Mangsho (Goat Curry) stole the spotlight — slow-cooked perfection bursting with deep, aromatic notes. The Butter Chicken offered creamy decadence, Saag Paneer brought balance and freshness, and Bhindi Posto, cooked in mustard and poppy paste, paid homage to traditional Bengali home cooking. Fluffy saffron Rice and soft Garlic Naan completed the spread.

Dessert delivered finesse — the Gulab Jamun was pure comfort, while the Crème Caramel with Puffed Rice added a playful, East-meets-West flourish.

Kolkata Cricket Club is more than a restaurant — it’s an experience that tells stories through spice, craftsmanship, and culture. With elegant décor, impeccable service, and bold flavours, it brings Kolkata’s soul to the heart of Melbourne.

Indus Age Rating: 5/5 — Soulful, sophisticated, and unmistakably Kolkata.
