“All Aboard!” – A New Social Lifeline for Seniors in Sydney’s South West

Live Easy Social, a heartwarming initiative by Scalabrini Communities, is transforming the lives of older adults across multicultural communities in South West Sydney—bringing people together through fun, friendship, and unforgettable experiences.

Launched in September 2024, Live Easy Social has already welcomed over 165 seniors to 14 events, helping them reconnect with their community, build new friendships, and enjoy an active social life. The program focuses on activities that are both engaging and culturally inclusive—like group outings, gentle exercise, creative workshops, and casual catch-ups at the Live Easy Hub in Mt Pritchard.

In a nod to its commitment to diversity, the team behind Live Easy Social includes staff from Italian, Indian, Hispanic, and Filipino backgrounds—ensuring participants feel at home and heard, regardless of their cultural roots.

And the next event promises to be a memorable one! On Wednesday 13th August, all seniors are invited to hop aboard the iconic Riverboat Postman Cruise on the Hawkesbury River. For just $79, participants will enjoy return bus transfers, a 3-hour cruise, morning tea, and lunch. (Pick-up at 8:00 AM from St Elias Speleota’s Catholic Church, Ashcroft.)
Bookings: Call (02) 8729 2865 or email melissa.vela@scalabrini.com.au

The social program also runs a weekly hub every Wednesday from 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church Hall in Bonnyrigg. Activities vary each week—from bingo and trivia to dance, craft, tech lessons, and a warm Italian-style lunch, all for just $15.

Anna Wilson, Social Manager at Scalabrini, explains,

“Live Easy Social is a direct response to what our seniors asked for—fun outings without the stress of planning. We organise everything. All they have to do is RSVP and enjoy the day.”

She adds,

“We keep it affordable and subsidise wherever possible—this is Scalabrini’s way of giving back and ensuring older adults from all cultures remain connected and supported.”

From ferry trips to Watsons Bay to bus rides through the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Windsor, and Wollongong—Live Easy Social is more than a program; it’s a celebration of community, culture, and connection.

Indus Age encourages our senior readers to get involved—and get social!
