Sponsorship applications now open for the new Temporary Sponsored Parent Visa

home affairsA family reunion visa, with sponsorship applications for the new Temporary Sponsored Parent Visa (subclass 870) now open to migrant families wanting their parents to come to Australia for up to 10 years.

Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs David Coleman said a dedicated team within the Department of Home Affairs has been set up to manage applications and assist families during the application process.

“This new visa is just one of many initiatives by the  Government has put in place to ensure migrants are supported and that we remain the most successful immigration nation in the world”, Mr Coleman said.

“It will enable reunions for thousands of migrant families, and will deliver great social benefits to many families across Australia.”
The Government has committed to delivering 15,000 of the Temporary Sponsored Parent Visas each year, ensuring thousands of migrant families will benefit.

Parents from overseas will have the opportunity to visit Australia for a continuous period of up to five years, with an option to renew for another five years after a short stay outside of Australia.

Two parents per household can be sponsored for this visa at a time, ensuring more families across Australia have the opportunity to sponsor a parent. Other visa options remain, including the Visitor Visa for parents or permanent Parent visas.

Sponsorship applications open on Wednesday 17 April 2019. Families are encouraged to get their sponsorship application in as soon as possible. Sponsored parents will be able to lodge a visa application from 1 July 2019.
