Over three spellbinding nights, Bollywood’s maestro duo Salim and Sulaiman Merchant rocked the stage in three sold out Jubilee Concerts across Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland. The concert featured high energy performances from the masters themselves as well as high calibre artists Vipul Mehta, Raj Pandit and Sukriti Kakar who mesmerised the audience with foot-tapping classics from the 70s all the way to current Bollywood hits adding a twist of Bruno Mars & Justin Bieber in between.
The extravagant production, fusion musical arrangements and fun choreography had the audience on their feet partyingall night. The audience was also graced with a tribute to the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan by “The Manganiars” Rajasthani Folk Singers and were further captivated with a special mashup of melody love songs which took the audience on a journey throughIndia’s evergreen cinema compositions. The Jubilee Concerts were held at Auckland’s Vodafone Events Centre, The Concourse Chatswood, Sydney and Melbourne Recital Hall over the 13th, 14th and 15th of April.
The Jubilee Concerts is a global tour celebrating His Highness the Aga Khan’s Diamond Jubilee or 60 years of leadership of the Ismaili Muslim Community. His Highness the Aga Khan, a direct lineal descendent of the Prophet Muhammad, is recognised as a global leader in international development through the work of the independent, non-denominational Aga Khan Development Network (akdn.org), which works in partnership with both the Australian and New Zealand governments amongst other partners worldwide to improve the quality of life of those in the developing world.
The Jubilee Concerts series, which presents a fusion of Qawwali, Sufi, Folk and Bollywood musichas also toured in Canada, USA, India, Bangladesh and Russia.
