A Newcastle chef who has dedicated her working life to promoting Indian culture and cuisine and an accountant who has fostered greater economic relations between NSW and India have received top honours at the 2018 Premier’s Harmony Dinner.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian presented the Regional Communities Medal to Promila Gupta, and the Economic Participation Medal to Yateender Gupta as part of the 2018 Premier’s Multicultural Community Medals.
Minister for Multiculturalism, Ray Williams acknowledged Mr Gupta and Ms Gupta’s commitment to forging greater links between NSW and India.
“Day in day out, people like Mr Gupta and Ms Gupta, strengthened our harmonious multicultural community and set an example for every member of our society,” Mr Williams said.
Ms Gupta is the President of the Indian Association of Newcastle Inc. and teaches Indian cooking at the WEA Hunter campus.
“Harmony for me is a bridge between cultures. A shared experience can help with relationships and one way I do this is with food,” Ms Gupta said.
“Being able to share my recipes and educate and enrich other people’s lives with new skills, brings me so much joy.”
Mr Gupta is the founder of the Australian Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
