The Australian National Maritime Museum is excited to be counting down to 27 May when its iconic 1,700 square metre roof will transform into an underwater wonderland in The Nautilus and The Sea during Vivid Sydney 2016, the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas.
Created by Ample Projects, the award winning Nautilus and The Sea roof projection tells the story of Norbert the Nautilus and his search for a new home. It will run nightly from 6pm – 11pm until 18 June 2016.
To complement the rooftop projection an enchanting synced soundtrack will play on Pyrmont Bridge and on the museum’s brand new on-water viewing platform ‘The Lookout’.
Giant light structures of delightful sea creatures will also be installed along the museum’s waterfront precinct for visitors to have their photos taken with. The precinct will stay open until 11.30pm every night for festival goers to wander between the Pyrmont Bay ferry and Cockle Bay and enjoy the lights on its heritage vessels.
The museum is also offering festival goers the opportunity to try out its brand new $12 million Action Stations experience and enjoy the Darling Harbour views from its rooftop ‘The Lookout’ free of charge on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
From ‘The Lookout’ visitors can enjoy the six minute rooftop projection and get a bird’s-eye view of the brilliant installations and spectacles that will illuminate the harbour. Action Stations is an exciting new way to experience the compelling history of the Royal Australian Navy through a high-tech and immersive journey (entry applies to Action Stations only and not the adjoining Royal Australian Navy submarine and destroyer).
Vivid Sydney visitors are also invited to kick back and relax at its waterside café, Yots, which will transform into pop up bar serving tapas and drinks on weekend nights during the festival. Exclusive Vivid Sydney corporate packages are also available for functions at the museum’s on-water venues overlooking Darling Harbour.
The Australian National Maritime Museum at Darling Harbour is open daily. Call 02 9298 3777 or visit www.anmm.gov.au/vivid for more information.
