The Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) welcomes the appointment of a new Chairperson, well-known media personality Helen Kapalos.
An accomplished journalist, presenter, executive producer and filmmaker, Helen Kapalos is a passionate Victorian who is deeply involved with the community, and brings a personal perspective to leading cultural diversity in the state.
“This is a meaningful new pathway for me. As a daughter of Greek immigrants, I am acutely aware of some of the sensitivities of the migrant experience,” she said.
Ms. Kapalos has also worked in a number of philanthropic roles including Director at the Heart Foundation, Director of Federation Square, Ambassador for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, and Ambassador with Community Languages Australia.
Premier Daniel Andrews made the announcement at the Premier’s Iftar Dinner on Tuesday 14 July 2015, and congratulated Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Robin Scott, for selecting such an outstanding new Chairperson.
Under Ms. Kapalos’ leadership, the VMC takes an exciting step forward with a new voice for multiculturalism in Victoria, particularly for women.
Acting VMC Chairperson Ross Alatsas is delighted by the appointment.
“I warmly welcome Helen Kapalos to the Commission and look forward to working with her and our Commissioners in promoting and celebrating cultural diversity in Victoria,” he said.
