Local MPs Tim Pallas, Jill Hennessy and Telmo Languiller have welcomed the announcement of 10 new police officers for the Wyndham area, and commended police for helping to reduce assault, robbery and drug offences in the area.
Ms Hennessy and Mr Languiller today visited Wyndham North Police Station with Minister for Police Wade Noonan, for the fifth anniversary of the station’s official opening.
Victoria Police have announced ten new police positions for the Wyndham area in response to community need, and the Andrews Government has contributed $30,000 to begin planning an overhaul of the East Werribee Justice Precinct, which would deliver upgrades to the courthouse and Werribee Police Station.
Crime statistics show that in 2014 in Wyndham there was a 38.2 per cent drop in drug dealing and trafficking offences and 26 per cent drop in the offences of cultivating or manufacturing drugs.
The proactive approach by police has also been reflected in the decrease of assault and related offences by 25.5 per cent in the Wyndham area.
