Odisha to set up 45 new courts

4Bhubaneswar, Feb 5 (IANS) The Odisha government Thursday decided to set up 45 new courts across the state to ensure speedy disposal of pending cases.

The new courts will include 22 first class magistrate courts, 15 subordinate judge courts, five additional district judge courts and three family courts.

This was decided at a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Pradeep Amat Thursday.

The decision was taken following the suggestion of the Odisha High Court to open more courts in the state.

“We have decided to set up courts of different levels throughout the state after the recommendation of the full bench of the high court. The committee, which held a discussion on budgetary provision, has decided to earmark Rs.17 crore (for the purpose),” said Law Minister Arun Sahu.
