ImpactGuru.com, India’s leading healthcare, nonprofit and personal cause donation crowdfunding platform, unveils a one-of-a-kind program #DoctorsForGood on National Doctors’ Day, 1^st July, for medical practitioners across India. The objective behind the initiative is to provide a platform for enrolled doctors to refer patients who are in need of funds for their treatment.

In India, about 80% of the total population is not covered under any medical insurance scheme according to the National Sample Survey. Out of pocket medical expenses make up about 62% of all healthcare costs in India, as per IRDAI. Insurance doesn’t cover majority of the costs in critical cases like cancer, organ transplants or heart surgeries. Most patients are unable to get treatment due to lack of funds or bear financial debt due to a medical emergency; crowdfunding is an emerging option that comes with no payback. However, most patients aren’t aware that such an option exists.

How does the #DoctorsForGood program work?

By inviting doctors, hospitals and clinicians to be part of this initiative, the ImpactGuru team will conduct interactions in the form of webinars, newsletters or workshops to start a conversation on affordable healthcare among these experts across the country. Crowdfunding has immense potential to help raise lakhs for patients when banks / NBFCs provide restricted funding due to low credit scores, need for collateral, high risk of death and default etc.
