CALD Communities Taskforce – Standing Strong with Victoria’s Indian Communities

CALD Communities Taskforce – set up last month – has already helped thousands of individuals and families get the support they need, including targeted assistance for Indian communities.

The Taskforce is partnering with community organisations and local government to develop community specific, locally delivered solutions that will help slow the spread of coronavirus.

Since the Taskforce was established, more than $1.4 million has made its way to multicultural and multifaith organisations, supporting at least 1,500 individuals or families during the pandemic.

More than a third of the funds have been directed to Indian community organisations, with 15 sharing in $455,000 to deliver crucial support, such as food boxes, care packages and culturally appropriate assistance during selfisolation.

They include the Hindu Council of Australia (VIC), Sikh Volunteers Australia and the Federation of Indian Associations Victoria, IndianCare and Sri Guru Nanak Satsang Sahba, which focused on support for international students from India.
