Well known Gandhi Play, YUGPURUSH is touring Australia Pacific this November with eleven shows planned in the region.

YUGPURUSH is a two-hour long heart-touching and riveting drama of the profound spiritual relationship between Mahatma Gandhi & his spiritual mentor, Shrimad Rajchandra, a great Indian saint, poet, philosopher and spiritual luminary. Mahatma Gandhi credits his principle of truth and non-violence to Shrimadji, which not only shaped Gandhiji’s life but also laid foundations for India’s independence. The play has been produced by Shrimad Rajchandra Mission, Dharampur celebrating the 150^th birth anniversary of Shrimadji.

Gandhiji met Shrimadji for the first time in Mumbai in 1891, upon his return from England as a barrister. Shrimadji’s inner equipoise, absorption in spiritual pursuits, enlightening wisdom, knowledge of the scriptures and moral earnestness left a deep-rooted impression on Gandhiji.

Personal interaction between Shrimadji and Gandhiji was for just two years but their interaction through letters continued for several years when Gandhiji left for South Africa. Upon his return to India, Shrimadji had left His body.  Theirs was a personal bond, wherein Gandhiji wove Shrimadji’s teachings in his everyday life. In fact, he made Shrimadji’s spiritual poem Apurva Avsar’ a part of his ashram daily prayers. Gandhiji already paid rich tributes in his autobiography and devoted an entire chapter on Shrimadji. History tends to focus on outward events and the relationship between Shrimadji and Gandhiji was a personal, intimate and internal one.

YUGPURUSH depicts this untold story of two legends in the history of India. YUGPURUSH is no longer a play; it is a global phenomenon. It has numerous awards including prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke excellence award for best drama. It has performed close to 1000 shows in less than a year in 275 cities across the world with approximately 600,000 lives touched. Audiences from diverse background have applauded this theatrical masterpiece.

YUGPURUSH has a noble cause behind it. All surplus profits from the play will support the construction of a 200-bed multi-specialty charity hospital in Dharampur, Gujarat.  It will help close to 2 million people living in one of the most tribal regions of India.

In Australia pacific, eleven shows are planned this November-December with three shows in Sydney and one show each in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth, Auckland, Lautoka and Suva.
