Tax helpline in Odisha to curb black money in polls

31Bhubaneswar, April 1 (IANS) The Odisha unit of the income tax department Tuesday said it has launched a helpline and a round-the-clock control room in the state to check use of black money in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Anyone can dial toll free number 1800-345-6114 to report movement of illegal cash.

A control room and complaint monitoring cell has become functional at the state headquarters of the income tax office in the capital to receive such information, a tax department official told IANS.

Similarly, an intelligence unit has been set up at the Biju Patnaik International Airport here to check the movement of undisclosed cash.

Offices have been set up in each district for monitoring of election expenditure by candidates.

The offices, exclusively manned by tax officials, will keep watch on movement of cash, drugs, liquor and other objectionable material during the elections.

Polling for the 21 Lok Sabha seats in the state and the 147-member assembly would be simultaneously held April 10 and 17.
