On the visit Mr Narendra Singh Tomar, Hon Minister of Steel and Mines

download (1)Union Minister of Steel and Mines, Government of India, Mr Narendra Singh Tomar is currently on an official visit to Australia. He arrived in Sydney Monday Aug 31. The visit is a part of ongoing high level exchanges  following the visit of Prime Minister Modi to Australia in November 2014 and Prime Minister Abbott to India in September 2014. Mining sector has been identified as a key sector for collaboration between India and Australia.

 

Mr Tomar held substantive discussions with Premier of New South Wales Hon Mike Baird MP on Aug 31. The discussions covered current and potential areas of cooperation in the mining sector including recent changes in mining policy in India, avenues for Australian investment in Indian mining sector and collaboration between Geological Survey of India and Geoscience Australia.

 

Hon Minister inaugurated India Stand at Asia Pacific’s International Mining Exhibition – AIMEX 2015 held at Sydney Showground on September 1. He also inaugurated ‘India Day’ celebrations where an e-book on exploration in India was released. An MoU was signed between Geological Survey of India and Geosciences Australia. Overview of the Indian mining sector – including iron ore, coal, aluminium and manganese was provided to a select audience.

 

Minister Tomar is scheduled to meet Australian Minister of Trade and Investment Hon Andrew Robb and Minister of Industry and Science Hon Ian Macfarlene on Sept 2. He will also visit Perth on Sept 3-4 to visit Alcoa bauxite mine, Rio Tinto Operational Centre and meet the Premier of Western Australia Hon Colin Barnett.
