Sculpture at Barangaroo 6-21 August 2016

The Barangaroo Delivery Authority is delighted to announce that Sculpture at Barangaroo will be staged at Sydney’s newest and most spectacular Harbour foreshore park, Barangaroo Reserve, from 6-21 August 2016.

The event is presented in partnership with Sculpture by the Sea, which has been delighting Sydney with its outdoor exhibitions along the Bondi coastal walk for almost 20 years.

Free to the public, the temporary exhibition will transform the six-hectare headland reserve into an open-air sculpture park that will capture the imagination of Sydney and its visitors.

The exhibition will showcase 12 outdoor artworks by a stellar line-up of 15 Australian artists, including senior, established and emerging artists.

The collection includes six new works and six existing works that were selected specifically for exhibition at Sculpture at Barangaroo.

Exhibiting artists include, Sean Cordeiro and Claire Healy, Marley Dawson, Lucy Humphrey, Ron Robertson-Swann OAM, Margarita Sampson, Sangeeta Sandrasegar, Yasmin Smith, Marcus Tatton, Ken Unsworth OAM,Sally Kidall, Lyndsay Urquhart, Emily Nichol and Tereasa Trevor and Auntie Deidre Martin with collaborators.

Barangaroo Delivery Authority Chief Executive Officer, Craig van der Laan, said: “We are very excited to be presenting Sculpture at Barangaroo, which will showcase once more the amazing public space the NSW Government has created at Barangaroo. Works to be exhibited by the extraordinary team of assembled artists will highlight the textures of Barangaroo’s spectacular sandstone and gardens, drawing on our commitment to sustainability and the significance of Aboriginal history and culture in this special place.”

The immersive, family-friendly event will have something for everyone, engaging the senses as well as the imagination as visitors explore the sculpture trail at their own pace along the Harbour foreshore promenade, Wulugul Walk to Nawi Cove, and up to Stargazer Lawn and Walumil Lawn.

A series of free talks by exhibiting artists will be held on site throughout the event and a selection of sculptures will grow and evolve over the 16 day period. Visitors are invited to participate and contribute to the works between 8:00am and 6:00pm daily.

Sculpture at Barangaroo will culminate with a major celebration to commemorate the first anniversary of the opening of Barangaroo Reserve on Sunday, 21 August. Details of the first anniversary event will be announced soon.

Barangaroo Reserve will be open as normal for all to enjoy throughout the event. Visitors to Barangaroo Reserve can also take the opportunity to connect with the world’s oldest living culture by booking a hands-on Aboriginal cultural tour with Barangaroo’s Visitor Services Guides.

Barangaroo Reserve is easily accessible by public transport and on foot from Circular Quay, Walsh Bay, Millers Point and The Rocks. The closest train stations are Wynyard and Circular Quay.
