Jamie Briggs & Duncan Gay med rel: New milestones in delivering Western Sydney’s Infrastructure Plan

The Australian and New South Wales Governments are getting on with delivering the infrastructure of the 21st century to build a stronger and more prosperous Western Sydney.

Federal Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Jamie Briggs and NSW Roads Minister Duncan Gay today announced important new milestones in the delivery of the $3.5 billion Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan.

These include:

· Beginning the search for a project director to lead this massive infrastructure program with advertising for the position commencing today; and

· The awarding of a major contract to URS Australia Pty Ltd to design the 4.3 kilometre second stage of the Bringelly Road upgrade between King Street and The Northern Road.

Minister Briggs said the Australian Government was focused on building the modern infrastructure that is vital to unlocking the economic capacity of Western Sydney by easing congestion, slashing travel times and creating thousands of local jobs.
“This investment in roads is a key part of our Economic Action Strategy and will create 4,000 jobs in addition to the tens of thousands of jobs that will be created by the new airport,” Mr Briggs said.
“We are looking for an expert in major project delivery to lead these projects and ensure the people of Western Sydney get the best possible outcome from this historic investment in world class road infrastructure and a new airport.
“Advertisements will go out next week seeking interest from people with high levels of project delivery expertise to apply for the position. The project director will coordinate the upgrades from planning to implementation to ensure the road infrastructure is in place long before the first flight at Badgerys Creek takes off.

“The delivery team will work closely with the community to build these projects which means more local jobs for the people of Western Sydney,” Mr Briggs said.
“The 10 kilometre Bringelly Road upgrade will be carried out in two stages to provide two lanes in each direction, with provision for the road to be widened to three lanes in the future,” Mr Gay said.
“The project will improve travel for all road users in the South West Growth Centre and support Western Sydney’s future airport at Badgerys Creek.

“Stage one work involves upgrading the 5.7 kilometre section between Camden Valley Way and King Street with stage two to upgrade the 4.3 kilometre section from King Street to The Northern Road.
“The NSW Government provided $500,000 this year to start detailed design for stage two.
“Today I’m delighted to announce an exciting milestone that will see the design for stage two finalized for the road to open in the 2017-18 financial year.
“Building on the first section will start early next year and be completed in 2017.
“To view the submissions report responding to feedback collected during the display of the Review of Environmental Factors and concept design for stages one and two residents can visit the Roads and Maritime website.

“Design work is complete for stage one with tenders to build the road expected to be invited next month.
“Work on the $280 million NSW Government funded Camden Valley Way upgrade, also a key road in the South West Growth Centre is well under way with the upgrade expected to be opened in stages by the end of 2015,” Minister Gay said.
