India eves look for first win in AFC U-16 qualifiers

10Dhaka, Oct 18 (IANS) India will hope to register their first win of the 2015 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-16 Women’s Championship qualifiers when they take on hosts Bangladesh in a crucial encounter at the Bangabandhu Stadium here Sunday.

India lost 1-2 in their opening Group B match against Iran while Bangladesh have already registered two wins from two matches, drubbing United Arab Emirates 6-0 and beating Jordan 1-0.

India are third in the points table behind leaders Iran and Bangladesh. Jordan and UAE are the other two teams of the group.

India coach Maymol Rocky said that they have a tough task at hand as the hosts have played good football.

“They have played good attacking football. We did not expect them to play so well. I feel it will be anybody’s game Sunday and they will be the favourites,” Maymol said.

She admitted that India have to improve their fitness levels as that was one of the prime reasons for their loss against Iran.

“We got tired. We need to work on our fitness. They were very physical. All 11 of our players are carrying niggles. This is not an excuse but a lesson learnt. We will work on our fitness and it is our duty now to spur them on for the all important next game against the hosts,” she said.
