Eight Haj agencies in Bangladesh lose licence

16Dhaka, April 24 (IANS) The Bangladesh government has revoked the licences of eight Haj agencies and withheld the licences of 43 others for alleged irregularities.

Action has been taken against 208 agencies after a probe committee formed by the country’s ministry of religious affairs found that they were responsible for irregularities, Chowdhury Md. Babul Hassan, secretary at the ministry, said Thursday.

The irregularities include trafficking people under the pretext of Haj, not providing the pilgrims with accommodation, transport and guides and serving them low quality food, bdnews24.com cited Hassan as saying.
