YSPN set to propel the migrant community back into the workforce with its free online CV check program

By Ramneek Singh

The Young Sikh Professionals Network (YSPN) has launched a free online CV check program to support those looking for a job during these tough times.

Manisha Pannu, Head of YSPN’s migrant pillar  informed, “Since its launch, members of the YSPN team (comprising engineers, lawyers, consultants, accountants, etc) have assisted over 200 people improve their CVs so they are better positioned when applying for jobs.”

Given the shrinkage of the labour market and rise in unemployment rates due to COVID-19, YSPN is keen to broaden the reach, and scale the impact, of this service and to support this has recently launched an entertaining video in Punjabi depicting the 5 common mistakes people make in their CVs to promote their service: [https://youtu.be/vzRy9dqf8dw].

Manisha Pannu, Head of YSPN’s migrant pillar, further commented: ‘We’re motivated to help as many people as possible, and we wanted to do that in a fun and engaging way. This video is designed to entertain, educate and encourage viewers to spread the message of the ‘sewa’ (i.e., selfless service) carried out by YSPN. We hope people enjoy the video, learn from the message, and if so, encourage everyone to share the video with their networks – because it might help someone find the support they need to land a job’.

While the video has been prepared for native Punjabi speakers, who represent a particularly vulnerable migrant segment that we’re focused on, YSPN’s CV check service is open to all – anyone needing help with their CV can email their CV to the YSPN team (cvcheck@yspn.org.au) who will review it and provide detailed feedback. The service is free of charge.
