Training and Workforce Development Minister Liza Harvey said Jared Stone from Doubleview was named the best apprentice in Australia, winning the Australian Apprentice of the Year 2015 while Sandra Van Der Gaag of Yokine was also named the Australian Apprentice (Trainee) of the Year at last night’s event.

“Our finalists are among the best in their field, both in their home State and nationally, and last night we recognised and celebrated their successes and contributions to vocational education and training,” Mrs Harvey said.

The Minister said the Australian Training Awards recognised the exemplary achievements of business, registered training organisations and everyday Australians in vocational education and training.

In the organisation categories, Crown Perth was named the Employer of the Year, with Clinipath Pathology taking out the Australian Apprenticeships – Employer Award.

“It was inspiring to see so many West Australian finalists competing at a national level and showcasing the exceptional talent the State’s training sector has to offer,” Mrs Harvey said.

“I would like to extend congratulations to the four West Australian award recipients for their outstanding achievements and to commend them on the passion, enthusiasm and dedication they have towards training.”

WA had 10 individuals and companies representing the State at this year’s Australian Training Awards.

The annual event has recognised excellence in training on a national scale since 1994.  During this time, more than 30 individuals and organisations from WA have been named Australia’s finest.
