Vale Bart Cummings, a giant of Australian Racing.
Born in South Australia, Bart dominated racing in Victoria and passed away peacefully in Sydney this morning.
Bart’s record in Victoria is unlikely to be matched with a remarkable 12 Melbourne Cups. He also had success in NSW, winning four Golden Slippers amongst his 268 Group One winners.
My favourite memory of Bart was watching his horse Saintly storm home as the winner of the 1996 Melbourne Cup.
I extend my deepest sympathies to the Cummings family and Bart’s friends. He was one of Australia’s favourite racing sons and sporting greats and the entire industry and race going public will mourn the loss of this great man.
