cricketThe EMANGO CUP is a Quadrangular Cricket limited overs tournament between the Manglorean Catholic Association of Sydney (MCAS), Australian Residents Anglo Indian Association (ARAIA) and Goan Overseas Association-NSW (GOA)& Sydney East Indian Association (SydEI).

THE EMANGO CUP is an initiative from all four associations with an aim to foster social bonding between the communities. The Cricket tournament has grown in popularity since it first started as a bilateral contest in 2008 as THE MANGO CUP between MCAS & GOA. In 2011 it graduated to a Triangular contest when the ARAIA team participated. Last year 2014 the Sydney East Indian Association’s cricket team joined the event making it a Quadrangular tournament with the Trophy being rechristened as THE EMANGO CUP.

The Captains of the 4 teams were Brian Mathias (GOA), Joylene Moras (MCAS) & Carl D’Silva (ARAIA)& Nereus D’Mello (SydEI). GOA &MCAS by virtue of being the 2014 winners & Runners-up were drawn on opposite sides of the Semifinal draw. ARAIA played GOA & MCAS played SydEI in the semifinals. GOA & SydEI won their semifinals to set up a title clash in the Finals. The GOA Team emerged the winners in the Finals by convincingly beating SydEI by 9 wickets to retain the EMANGO Cup for the Third year in succession. The GOA team is the only team to have reached the finals of this tournament in all 8 years winning the tournament in 2011, 2013, 2014 & 2015.

Tournament Match Details as follows.

SEMIFINALS-12 overs a side:

1st SF:GOA v/s ARAIA: GOA beat ARAIA by 22 Runs. ARAIA won the toss & elected to field.

GOA 79/7 in 12 overs.Tony Fernandes 23, Keegan Pinto 13, Josh Mathias 10. Patrick French2 for 10, Sebastian 2 for 4, Peter Cotter 1 for 20, Madhu 1 for 10.

ARAIA 57/8 in 12 overs.Jarrod French 21, Patrick French 10. Josh Mathias 3 for 6, Rajiv 1 for 1.

2nd SF: MCAS v/s SydEI: SydEI beat MCAS by 5 runs. MCAS won the toss and elected to field.

SydEI 102/2 in 12 overs. Zeppelin Drego 61, Warren 14. Johnathan 1 for 8, Valerian 1 for 10.

MCAS 97 for 4 in 12 overs. Sean 37 not out, Valerian 35,  Val 2 for 8, Aleron 1 for 18, Nereus 1 for 8

FINALS: (15overs aside):

GOA beat SydEI by 9 wickets. SydEI won the toss and elected to bat.

SydEI: 67 all out. Andrew 35. Mohan 3 for 10, Josh Mathias 2 for 10, Vinny 1 for 13, Rajiv 1 for 4, Keegan 1 for 6, Sunny 1 for 3.

GOA 69 for 1 in 6 overs. Vinny 46, Josh Mathias 11 n/o. Aleron 1 for 6.

GOA Vice President Alwyn Henriques conducted the Presentation. Sonia Mendonca, Cheryl D’Sylva, Nita Banerjee, Wendy Bailey, GOA President Tony Colaco, MCAS Captain Joylene Moras, ARAIA President Bruce Sloans and SydEI Captain Nereus D’Mello presented the prizes. The following players were amongst the prizes.

  1. Best Fielder: Patrick French(ARAIA).
  2. Best Wicketkeeper: Abel Do Rosario (GOA).
  3. Best Bowler: Josh Mathais(GOA).
  4. Best Batsman: Zeppelin Drego (SydEI).
  5. Player of the Tournament: Josh Mathias (GOA)

Josh Mathias, the player of the tournament was the recipient of a 32” TV sponsored by Liverpool Catholic Club. The efforts of SydEI Captain Nereus D”Mello with Liverpool Catholic Club is also of appreciation.
