Stay safe and know your working rights: A briefing for Indian international students studying in Sydney and NSW

Consulate General of India, Sydney in association with Study NSW will organise a briefing session for International Students from India studying in Sydney on Friday 25 August 2017, 3:45PM-6:00PM (2 hours) at Indian Cultural Centre, Level 2, 265 Castlereagh Street, Sydney 2000.

During the session entitled “Stay safe and know your working rights – A briefing for Indian international students studying in Sydney and NSW” speakers from Study NSW, NSW Police, Fair Work Ombudsman and Redfern Legal Centre will brief the gathering regarding issues faced by students related to safety and working rights. Speakers from the Consulate General of India, Sydney will highlight the services provided by the Consulate General. 3:45-4:15PM (30 minutes) Arrival of participants  
4:15 PM (1 minute) MC announces the start of the program and welcomes speakers on stage. MC from Consulate General of India
4:16 – 4:21 PM (5 minutes) Welcome remarks by Consul General of India in Sydney CG’s general remarks on the work of the Consulate General related to welfare of Indian citizens living in Australia, brief overview of India Australia relations, outline of services provided by the Consulate for Indians in general.
4:21– 4:25 PM (4 minutes) Opening remarks by Representative from StudyNSW Peter Mackey, Director, International Trade (with responsibility for StudyNSW) to welcome students, briefly outline the role of Study NSW in supporting international students and how to keep in touch to be informed about future activities .
4:25-4:45 PM (10 minutes) Presentation by Consul for Consular Activities, Consulate General of India, Sydney The Consul will talk about the services offered by the Consulate General for Indian citizens living in Australia, inform about various initiatives taken by Government of India to facilitate Indian students abroad, contact details for emergency purposes etc.
4:45 – 5:00 PM (15 minutes) Presentation by NSW Police Detective Inspector Glyn Baker, Crime Manager Ryde Local Area Command, NSW Police
5:00 – 5:10 PM (10 minutes) Presentation by Redfern Legal Centre Sean Stimson, Solicitor, Redfern Legal Centre
5:10 – 5:25 PM (15 minutes) Presentation by Fair Work Ombudsman Ying Zheng, Senior Engagement Officer – Community Engagement Strategic Engagement and Stakeholder Relations, Fair Work Ombudsman

Presentation will cover;

·         the role of the FWO,

·         National Minimum Wage,

·         DIBP and FWO referral protocol

·         Tools and resources for international students, and

·         Key messages.
