Security cover at Tharoor’s Thiruvananthapuram office, home

TharoorAfter Sunanda Pushkar, wife of Union Minister Shashi Tharoor, was found dead in a Delhi hotel Friday night, a security cover has been provided at his office and home here in Kerala.

Tharoor represents the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency and his office is located a stone’s throw from the state secretariat while his home is in a posh residential area.

As soon as reports came that Pushkar was found dead, the state police decided to put a security cover at both his office and home.

It was only a few days back after a Twitter row broke out between Pushkar and a Pakistani woman journalist, the Left opposition and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state went on record to demand a complete probe as the allegations was levelled by Pushkar.

But things appeared to cool down Thursday after the couple posted a joint statement on the Facebook account of Tharoor that there are no issues between them and all’s well.

Tharoor, a former UN diplomat, was given a ticket to contest the polls in the May 2009 general elections from here and was made a junior minister in the Manmohan Singh cabinet.

But things went for a toss after he had to quit April 18, 2010 when it surfaced that his friend (Pushkar) got sweat equity in the Kochi Tuskers’ IPL team.

In August that year, Tharoor was in the news again when he married Pushkar at his ancestral home in Palakkad. Two years later in October, Tharoor was inducted back into the Manmohan Singh cabinet.

When the couple arrived here after he was sworn in, Pushkar hogged the limelight after she slapped a man for behaving in an undesirable fashion at the airport.
