Perth Men Stand up Against Domestic Violence

More than 20 of Perth’s prominent men will gather at nib Stadium today to pledge their support in the campaign to stop violence against women. Hon Helen Morton MLC

Launching the event today, Child Protection Minister Helen Morton said the Perth ‘STAND UP‘ event was being held to support the world’s largest male-led movement to stop violence against females, White Ribbon Day.

“The White Ribbon campaign encourages men to lead the way in speaking out and effectively challenging the attitudes and behaviours of men, young adults and boys who use or condone violence against women,” Mrs Morton said.

“I applaud all the men, such as radio host Peter Bell and artist Stormie Mills, who are here today to take a stand as mentors and speak out against violence towards women.

“It is important to recognise that we can all play a role in eliminating this behaviour and that as a community we will not accept violence in any form.

“The more awareness the community has about the realities of family and domestic violence, the more we will be able to protect those who are vulnerable.”

The event coincides with the launch of new and updated resources available to support and educate young people on family and domestic violence as part of the Youth Say No! campaign.
