NSW STRIKES ASIA DEALS FOR LOCAL PRODUCERS

smh-market07A series of new partnerships have been formed that will see local New South Wales (NSW) producers paired with discerning Chinese consumers.

 

Mid-way through his trade mission to China and Hong Kong to promote NSW in one of the world’s largest economies, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres said he was delighted to announce the series of new partnerships.

 

NSW has secured three new agreements for exporting wine, oats and baby formula to Asia, buoyed by increasing demand for Australian wines and health food:

 

  • AU$1 million worth – approximately 130,000 bottles – of NSW wines will enter the China market per annum thanks to an export agreement between Cumulus Estate Wines, owned by Wine Insights, and Asia Wine Connection.
  • Weiwah International Trading will export 1.2 million bottles of wine – one quarter of which are from NSW – to China to a total value of AU$12 million.
  • In addition, Weiwah will export baby formula, vitamins and other health products into Hong Kong.
  • NSW company Findley Enterprises will export more than 400 tonnes of natural oats and 25,000 bottles of ‘Byron’ certified organic wine into China,a shipment value estimated at AU$520,000. This marks the first export of certified organic wine from NSW to China. The Chinese appetite for Australian oats has grown 28 per cent per annum since 2010, making it one of the largest markets for Australian oats.

 

“These agreements, facilitated with the support of the NSW Government, are particularly timely given the recently signed China-Australia Free Trade Agreement and the opportunities this presents,” Mr Ayres said.

 

“The increase in the standard of living in China means we are seeing more interest than ever in premium, healthy products. The Chinese consumer expects a sophisticated product with high quality control and NSW supplies exactly that.”
