NSW police and emergency service personnal honoured in Australia day celebrations

nsw-policeTwenty two Police and Emergency Services personnel are today being honoured with medals as part of Australia Day Celebrations.

Minister for Police and Emergency Services Michael Gallacher has congratulated the nine Police Officers, three firefighters from Fire & Rescue NSW, seven NSW Rural Fire Service personnel, two NSW State Emergency Service volunteers and one Volunteer Rescue Association member.

They have been awarded the Australian Police Medal, Australian Fire Services Medal and the Emergency Services Medal respectively.

“These medals are recognition of the important work these men and women do in our community,” Minister Gallacher said.

“To receive these medals is a huge honour, and the recognition these men and women will receive today is not just representative of their work but also the type of people they are, always willing to go above and beyond in their respective organisations.

“Today we should all pause to pay tribute to the men and women, who have dedicated their careers to the protection and safety of others, not just here in NSW but across the nation.

“We have seen support flood in from across Australia in recent times, whether it be to assist in bush fires here in NSW or our friends in South Australia. That mateship and drive to help is at the very core of each of the award recipients today.

“These individuals, whether volunteers or paid officers, continue to demonstrate a level of commitment members of the community have come to expect from our emergency service personnel.

“I am extremely proud to be their Minister and I express my heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the people of NSW for all that they do and congratulate them again for a fantastic, once in a life time achievement that they should all be very proud of,” Minister Gallacher concluded.
