NEW LAND RELEASE WILL BOOST HOUSING SUPPLY

download (2)Planning Minister Rob Stokes today announced the first major land release in Greater Sydney for a decade, and a new vision for the Greater Macarthur region.

Mr Stokes said the 7,700-hectare land release south of Campbelltown will help create new communities at Menangle Park, Mount Gilead and Wilton Junction with up to 35,000 new homes, schools, public transport, road upgrades and green space.

“We will create vibrant new communities with new homes close to jobs, transport, shops and recreational areas. Through good planning, we will also ensure we maintain the rural lifestyle and heritage of the area.” Mr Stokes said.

“These communities will help improve accessibility to the housing market by increasing supply in greater Sydney and putting downward pressure on prices.”

Member for Wollondilly Jai Rowell welcomed the new plan for the region.

“I am delighted the NSW Government has a vision for our region, which will improve community facilities while protecting the unmistakable character of our community,” Mr Rowell said.

The vision for the area is set out in the Preliminary Strategy and Action Plan for the Greater Macarthur Land Release Area.

The strategy is on exhibition until November 4, and locals are also invited to take part in a community survey about what they value in their area, and what can be improved.

Work is expected to start on new homes in Mount Gilead within the next two years.

The new homes set out in the strategy are in addition to the 70,000 new home sites the NSW Government has created in the past four years.
