New CCTV released as inquiries continue into death of Prahba Arun Kumar – Homicide Squad

news92Homicide Squad detectives have released new CCTV footage as investigations continue into the murder of Prabha Arun Kumar at Westmead earlier this year.

Strike Force Marcoala was formed by detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad to investigate the murder of 41-year-old Prahba Arun Kumar.

Emergency services were called to a public walkway between Argyle Street, Parramatta, and Amos Street, Westmead, about 9.30pm on Saturday 7 March 2015.

Prahba, an Indian National, was found seriously injured and died later that night at Westmead Hospital.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad subsequently formed Strike Force Marcoala to investigate her death and have conducted extensive inquiries.

Strike force detectives have today released new CCTV footage of a person walking through Parramatta Golf Course, towards Jubilee Lane, on the night of Prabha’s murder.

Detective Acting Inspector Ritchie Sim says the footage was identified during recent canvassing of the area and, as yet, they have not been able to identify the person.

“Prahba’s death has affected a lot of people, including her family in India and the wider Australian community. These people need closure and we are reliant on the public’s help to allow us to bring that to them,” Det A/Insp Sim said.

“The person in the footage is one person who we have not been able to identify so far. While it’s not the best footage, we are hoping it might prompt someone’s memory.

Det A/Insp Sim said police are also continuing to work closely with Prabha’s family and investigators are exploring appropriate channels to travel to India.

“Considering the nature of the investigation and because it is Prabha’s home town, it is an obvious line of inquiry. It’s important we don’t speculate but we need to exhaust every line of inquiry,” Det A/Insp Sim said.
To acknowledge the public response to Prabha’s murder, investigators are working alongside Parramatta Park Trust and the Hills Holroyd Parramatta Community Migrant Resource Centre to establish a memorial to coincide with her birthday.

This follows the donation of a plaque in Prabha’s name from the Community Migrant Resource Centre.

“Prabha’s death has affected a lot of people. The Parramatta Park Trust, together with the Community Migrant Resource Centre, would like to publicly acknowledge that by holding memorial service in Prabha’s memory,” Det A/Insp Sim said.

“During this service, a plaque in Prabha’s name will be unveiled. I believe that the Parramatta Park Trust will also be naming the footpath along Jubilee Avenue in Prabha’s name.

“The event is expected to take place on Sunday 22 November, which is the weekend of Prabha’s birthday. We remain in close contact with Prabha’s family and we have invited them to attend the memorial event. We will also assist in helping the family to make the trip to Sydney from India.” Det A/Insp Sim said.

The Parramatta Park Trust and the Migrant Resource Centre will be finalising the plans for the Memorial Service and they will release the details of the event in the weeks to come.
