“Hindu Sena chief Vishnu Gupta has been detained today (Wednesday). He was taken to the Parliament Street Police station for questioning,” a senior police official told IANS.

On Monday evening, Gupta complained to police that beef was being served in Kerala House following which the police raided the premises. The action came in for criticism and allegations of police “intolerance”.

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and other political parties termed it an attack on the federal structure. In its defence, Delhi Police said they visited Kerala House only to “prevent any tension or untoward incident”.

On Tuesday, Chandy asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to instruct Home Minister Rajnath Singh to take action against the police officers who “raided” the Kerala House.

A probe later revealed that carabeef (buffalo meat), and not beef, was on the menu, police said. And after an uproar by Chandy and his counterparts in Delhi and West Bengal, buffalo meat has returned to the menu.
