Grants to improve women’s status

  • Up to $5,000 available for projects benefitting women in WA

Applications are open for State Government grants for projects which promote women’s economic independence and leadership.

Women’s Interests Minister Liza Harvey said local governments and eligible community service organisations could apply for up to $5,000 to pay for project costs including advertising, printing or childcare.

“Women in Western Australia face a number of barriers to improve their status; they continue to be underrepresented in leadership roles and are more likely than men to have no savings at retirement,” Mrs Harvey said.

“However, the momentum for positive change in WA is growing.  The WA Grants for Women program enables eligible organisations to work with women towards gender equality.”

Last year’s WA Grants for Women program saw more than $83,000 in funding going to 20 projects. These included:

  • Trade Skills for Women Project Inc – $5,000 for the TradeUP Empower Workshops. These workshops were designed to encourage women to consider taking up a trade for a career
  • The National Association of Women in Construction – $5,000 for the NAWIC WA Mentoring Program 2015.  The program addressed the challenges faced by women working in construction, including work/life balance, goal setting and up-skilling
  • Katanning Regional Business Association – $5,000 for the Building Stronger Women in Business project.  A series of training workshops designed to increase the knowledge, skills and confidence of current and future businesswomen.

Applications close on Thursday, March 17, 2016.
