Grants Promote Sctive West Australian Youth

  • Eight organisations to share in $32,513 for youth-related projects

The latest round of the State Government’s Youth Activities grants program will provide young West Australians with the opportunity to get involved in innovative and challenging community projects in 2016.

Youth Minister Tony Simpson said eight organisations in the South-West, Wheatbelt and metropolitan Perth would share in $32,513 for activities promoting the engagement of young people.

“Encouraging young people to take part in WA’s communities is a key part of the State Government’s vision for West Australian youth,” Mr Simpson said.

“The Youth Activities grants program is a major investment in our young people, and a fantastic example of successful partnerships between State and local government and community service organisations.

“Funded projects will encourage young people to contribute to their communities in a fun and safe environment, while developing lifelong skills and healthy lifestyles.”

The grants program gives local governments and community service organisations the opportunity to apply for one-off funding of up to $5,000 for local youth projects.

Among the organisations receiving funding is the City of Armadale, which has received $4,444 to conduct the Young Women’s Development Project. This 10-week development program will help young women look at issues such as low self-esteem and confidence, and build leadership skills while promoting active citizenship.

Local Drug Action Groups have received $5,000 to conduct the 2016 Communities in Action: Challenging Drinking Culture State Conference, which will enable young people from the Kimberley to make presentations on the work they are doing within their communities.
