New South Wales customers will soon have unprecedented access to translation services through Service NSW centres.

Minister for Multiculturalism John Ajaka was today joined by the Member for Holsworthy Melanie Gibbons at the Liverpool Service NSW centre to launch the initiative.

Following a successful trial in two Service NSW service centres, the translation services will be rolled out across the current Service NSW network and will cover more than 100 different languages and dialects.

The partnership between Service NSW and Multicultural NSW enables anyone to have a document translated into English from another language or from another language to English by visiting a Service NSW centre.

“With 20 per cent of people in NSW speaking a language other than English at home, this is a practical and common sense initiative that will make life easier for our community,” Minister Ajaka said.

Minister for Finance, Services and Property Dominic Perrottet said the trial had exceeded all expectations.

“We know that people want reliable, convenient and affordable translation services for family, travel or other personal reasons,” Mr Perrottet said.

Ms Gibbons said feedback from the south-western Sydney community had been particularly positive.

“Word has spread fast that this simple and convenient service is available and it was a no-brainer that we’d keep going with it,” Ms Gibbons said.

Service centres to offer the initiative now include Chatswood, Haymarket, Hurstville, Liverpool, Newcastle, Parramatta, Wollongong and Wynyard.

Since starting nearly two years ago Service NSW has served more than 15 million customers.
