Fiji Senior Citizens Assn  is organising Girmit remembrance Dinner on 13th May, 2017 at our centre 24 Arnwood Place, Annerley to remember those Indian men and women brought to Fiji as indentured labourers for the plantation and for the Government between 1874 to 1916.They had to sign a 5 years contract (Girmit) to time in Fiji.

Despite many hardships and atrocities committed on the Girmitiyas by Overseas of CSR Company  and lack of education and other facilities , they made great sacrifices, and with hard work, they made significant contributions towards education and maintaining our culture and traditions, building schools, Temples, Mosque, etc for their future generations. It is for such a vision that today’s third generations are professionals and skilled people in Fiji and who are spread around the world.

This event is to remember, appreciate and celebrate their sacrifices and achievements which they made towards building a bright future for their generations to come, at the same time working with the local and other communities in building Fiji a multicultural society.

We respectfully would like to invite you to this special occasion. Prof Brij Lal a well-known personality in the community and who has written a book on Girmitias will be our main speaker at the event. We have also invited other dignitaries on the night.
