Fog disrupts normal life in Uttar Pradesh

fog2Fog and the cold wave tightened its grip on Uttar Pradesh, disrupting normal life. The mercury will drop further in coming week, the Met Office here said Monday.

Due to heavy fog Monday, a car climbed a divider in Noida, adjoining New Delhi, injuring five people. They were rushed to the hospital.

Due to the dense fog cover, 20 flights destined for the national capital had to land in Lucknow late Sunday.

More than 5,000 passengers were stranded at the Chaudhary Charan Singh airport, Lucknow, as flights were delayed.

The weather official said the night temperature in most parts of the state was hovering between 1.3 to 3 degrees Celsius and could drop further.

The maximum temperature in Lucknow, however, remained 19.3 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 7.4 degrees Celsius.

Rail traffic was disrupted in the Northern Railway division with more than two dozen trains running behind the schedule.

The state government has directed the district authorities in 75 districts to ensure that poor and the homeless were given shelters and blankets to combat cold.
