Federation of Bhangra (FOB) crowned winners of Bhangra Down Under 2014.

MC Ajit Singh with Guest Satinder SattiThe cream of Australian Punjabi dance and music talent was on display at the Bhangra Down Under 2014 – Australian Bhangra competition, held at the National Theatre, St Kilda on Sunday 21st Seven teams competed from across Australia, including Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra for the top prize of $1,500 and the winning trophy.

The event was a sellout and over 900 vocal Punjabi and other community fans packed the National Theatre to roar support for their teams.

The male and female performers were from a mix of age groups including kids dancers and came from both urban and regional areas including Coffs Harbour in NSW.

The Melbourne based Federation of Bhangra (FOB) dance group was crowned the winner of the annual Bhangra Down Under 2014 – Australian Bhangra Competition.

FOB celebrated jubilantly onstage in front of a packed audience and showcased the spirit of the Punjabi community.

Rishi Singh, spokesperson for FOB said “We are humbled to be crowned the best Bhangra team in Australia considering the high quality of the other groups,”

The Bhangra All Stars team (BASS) were awarded second place in the competition with Melbourne Bhangra Regiment (MBR) announced in third place. The organisers of Bhangra Down Under 2014, Kingh Enterprises and Australian Bhangra Association, were thrilled with the ‘full house’.

Tanveer Bedi, spokesperson for the event said “Thanks to everyone who came and enjoyed the show. The performers were magnificent, the choreography first class and we look forward to next year’s event.”

The event featured a special guest, popular television host Satinder Satti and the crowd was kept in good spirits by the three MC’s Preetinder Grewal from SBS Punjabi, Ajit Chauhan Singh from the Singh Sabha Sports Club and Australian Punjabi Hip Hop artist, Sukhdeep Singh aka L-Fresh the Lion.

Other entertainment also included the Malwai Gidha, Dhol competition, kids Gidha and a sizzling Bollywood performance. September, 2014 Bhangra Down Under 2014 was proudly supported by MoneyGram, represented by National Marketing Manager- South Asia, Ms Nidhi Khataria, who presented the medals for the kids dance.

Gurpreet Singh was the lucky winner of 2 ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 tickets courtesy of official tournament partner MoneyGram.
