EC move to curb bogus voting by ‘veiled’ women

Chandigarh, Oct 12 (IANS) To check any attempt at bogus voting by women coming in veils to polling booths for casting their votes, the Election Commission (EC) has decided to appoint female officials at all booths, election officials said here Sunday.

EC general observer Lakuk Venkateshwar Lu said: “It was observed that some women who come for polling in veils cast bogus votes. A decision was taken to check this menace.”

He said that female officials will be posted within their village or area so that they are able to cast their vote.

The decision to appoint female officials was taken due to difficulty faced by male officials in identifying women voters coming to cast their vote with veiled faces, especially in rural areas.
