Easter and Anzac Day trading hours extended

Easter and Anzac Day trading hours extended
MischinAll general retail shops in the Perth metropolitan area will be allowed to open from 8am until 6pm on Easter Monday, April 6, and the Anzac Day public holiday, April 27.

Commerce Minister Michael Mischin said the decision provided more flexibility for retailers, who previously were only allowed to open between 11am to 5pm on these public holidays.

Mr Mischin said standard hours would apply to Easter Saturday (8am to 5pm) and Easter Sunday (11am to 5pm), with metropolitan retail shops remaining closed on Good Friday.

“The extra trading hours on Eastern Monday and the Anzac Day public holiday are consistent with the public holiday extensions during the 2014-15 Christmas and New Year period,” he said.

“As always, it will not be compulsory to open and close at these times, however it will give retailers the choice and ability to better cater for the demands of their customers.”

The Minister said the State Government’s focus in relation to trading hours was now on incremental changes that would rectify anomalies in the system.

“The Government has been at the forefront of retail trading hours’ reform with the introduction of late night weekday and Sunday trading which have proven to be popular with consumers and successful for businesses,” he said.

“The balance is now about right and there will be no radical changes in this term of government, however I am working on legislation to fix the issue of hardware stores selling particular goods.”
