282 of the state’s best and brightest young minds were honoured today at the 20th annual Premier’s VCE Awards.

Representing Premier Denis Napthine, Minister for Education Martin Dixon joined The Hon Alex Chernov AC QC, Governor of Victoria to congratulate the students and their teachers and families.

“Today is an important opportunity to celebrate the achievements of Victoria’s talented young people,” Mr Dixon said.

“These students stand to make significant contributions to Victoria’s future and I wish them all the very best on the next exciting stage of their life journey.”

Mr Dixon said this year’s VCE awards ceremony explored the theme of community.

“Each student’s success is a credit to their communities. With support from their principals, teachers, and families, these students have successfully completed their VCE, and excelled in their studies.”

A total of 306 awards were presented, including 282 awards for the top students in each VCE subject, three awards for the highest scoring international students, and 21 Top All Round High Achiever Awards for students who received a study score of 46 or above in at least five subjects.

Four government school students were among the top all-rounders: James Mistarz from Vermont Secondary College, Joyce Tan from Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School, Lynette Law from Balwyn High School and Annie Girdwood from University High School.

Melbourne Grammar received 14 awards, followed by Mac.Robertson Girls’
High School with 10 and Methodists Ladies’ College with nine awards.
