CONSUMER CHAMPION WINS COVETED AWARD

downloadMinister responsible for Fair Trading, Victor Dominello, today congratulated NSW Fair Trading Commissioner Rod Stowe on receiving the Society of Consumer Affairs Professionals (SOCAP) prestigious Life Time Achievement Award.

“NSW is fortunate to have a Commissioner for Fair Trading who is not only held in high esteem by the community but by his peers across Australia,” Mr Dominello said.

Mr Stowe received the award last night at SOCAP’s Industry Awards Night in Sydney. The national SOCAP Life Time Achievement Award is bestowed for a body of work that spans 10 years or more in the field of consumer affairs.

“Having served his state with distinction for more than 26 years in the Fair Trading portfolio, Mr Stowe is a worthy recipient of this accolade, which follows his award of the Public Service Medal in 2011 for the provision of outstanding service to the community in consumer affairs,” Mr Dominello said.

Mr Stowe was appointed NSW Commissioner for Fair Trading in July 2011, following a number of senior roles in NSW Fair Trading including Deputy Commissioner – National Reform, Assistant Commissioner, Policy and Strategy and Director of Customer Services.

He has always been a strong advocate for high quality customer and dispute resolution services and led the NSW consumer protection strategy for the 2000 Sydney Olympics, protecting the many thousands of international and national visitors and athletes.
