Bathukamma: Telangana Jagruthi Floral Festival in Sydney

Bathukamma the floral festival of Telangana was celebrated with great show at the Sydney Baha’i Center on 8th October, 2016. The event was organised by Telangana Jagruthi Australia Chapter and more than 1000 Telanganite’s living in New South Wales (NSW) State of Australia attended this mega event.

The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mrs Kalvakuntala Kavitha MP, Lok Sabha & President Telangana Jagruthi. Various Australian Federal and State Politicians attended the event including Hon Andrew Robb AO (Special Trade Envoy in Asia Pacific and Former Minister of  Trade & Investments), Hon Geoff Lee MP (Parliamentary Secretary for Multiculturalism and Member of Parramatta), Hon Julie Owens MP (Shadow Assistant Minister for Small Business &Shadow Assistant Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Australia), Hon Alan Griffin (Former Minister for Defence Personnel and Veterans Affairs), Hon Jodi McKay MP (Shadow Minister for Transport, Roads, Maritime and Freight), Hon Julia Finn MP, Hon Hugh Mc Dermott MP (State Member for Prospect), Mr Arjun Surapaneni (CEO, Victorian Institute of Technology), Cr Raj Dutta, Cr Susai Benjamin, Dr Bharathi Reddy , Mrs Aruna Chandrala & Dr Yadu Singh, Dr Moninder Singh JP graced the celebrations.

barkama2barkama1Telangana Jagruthi founder and TRS MP Mrs Kalvakuntla Kavitha received a rousing welcome. Women both young and old belonging to Telangana region brought ‘Bathukammas’ decorated with colourful flowers and trisulas, and Bathukamma pooja material was also brought to the event reflecting the culture of Telangana.Many were busy in clicking selfies with the TRS MP Mrs Kalvakuntala Kavitha while many others danced to the tunes of Bathukamma songs. Speaking on the occasion Mrs Kalvakuntala Kavitha expressed happiness and thanked all the visiting chief guests for participating in the event. The 8 Feet Bathukamma made by the founder members of the Australian Telangana Forum was one of the major attractions.

Mrs Kavitha met Arjun Surapaneni, Hon Alan Griffin and Hon Andrew Robb to explore Skills Training in Telangana State and How the State can benefit from Australia’s Expertise. It is expected more such dialogue shall happen in future. The Telangana Jagruthi organising committee include its President Mr Nishidhar Reddy Borra, Secretary NSW Anil Munagala, Advisor Rajesh Arshanapalli and committee members David, Sumesh Surya, Dr Vinod Elete, Suren Vangapalli, Srinivas Tootkur, Ashok Maram, Sangeeta Reddy, Jyothi Arashanapalli &Samatha Reddy. Special thanks were given to Melbourne supporters Kapil Katpelly, Praveen Nalla and Anand Chukka for supporting and gracing the event.
